PP.Swami Ramdevji at Leeds Mandir

The temple hall was full to the brim with devotees who came to see, hear and receive the blessings of the most charismatic person in India at the moment. To have Swami Ramdevji so close to us and to hear his refreshingly humourous speech was like a dream come true for most of us. He was on a short visit to Leeds during his week long Yoga Shibir in Bolton. £1625 was raised on the day for the Patanjali Yoga Pith at Hardivar that is under construction in India. Special thanks to the people of Leeds were received from Swamiji for this heartening support.

The Day the Hindus of Leeds and Yorkshire made history by proclaiming their identity!

GANAPATIJI OUTSIDE THE TOWN HALL

Sat 2nd September 2006 will be written in the history of Leeds and Yorkshire as the day when, for the first time ever, over 300 Hindus, young and old, some with walking sticks and one even in a wheel chair, proudly marched right into the heart of the city of Leeds, singing and dancing, with heads held high and with Lord Ganesh shining brilliantly.

No amount of rain could dampen the spirits and the enthusiasm of the devotees. The Lord Mayor of Leeds Cllr. Rashid Iqbal, Greg Mulholand MP and Fabian Hamilton MP welcomed Ganeshji by garlanding Him, followed by saying the Aarti and giving farewell speeches, wishing everyone a safe journey to Scarborough for the Visarjan. It was a most heart warming experience to see the Deputy Lord Mayor of Scarborough Cllr.Chatt, his dear wife and Mr. Nick Taylor of Yorkshire Forward, waiting, in pouring rain, to welcome Lord Ganeshji and over 200 devotees, for the final leg of the journey. Scarborough City Council also made a sports hall available for the party, to seek refuge from the rain after the Visarjan, for which we’ll be forever indebted to them. The devotees dried up, had lunch and felt rejuvenated then came back to Leeds singing bhajans all the way back. What a day! Already looking forwards to a bigger and better celebration next year.

Our special thanks go to all the brothers and sisters who worked tirelessly throughout the week to make this year’s Ganesh Utsav such a hugh success. We would like to say special thanks to Shri Nareshbhai Parmar and Shri Raj Kamal Patel for donating and driving the trailer carrying Ganeshji free of charge. Thanks also to our two photographers Shree Natubhai Jadav and Shri Tilakbhai Bachetta who captured the whole event so beautifully.

Durga Puja & Diwali Festival Committee

Durga Puja & Diwali Festival Committee is celebrating their 25th Anniversary in the North. It was the efforts a few devotees such as the late Shri Anil Roy and Shri Amol Poddar together with Gopi Roy and Dr Basu, who met as a group called Yorkshire Puja Committee in the 70’s, to carry out Durga Puja once a year. Now it has flourished and found a home within our Temple and we are proud to be associated with such devoted Hindus who have brought together fellow Bengali Hindus from all over the North. Now in the capable hands of Chairperson Dr.Sikha Saha and a young enthusiastic committee, it is thriving and flourishing. We wish them every success, now and in the future and pray to work together with unity, humility and respect for each other as a fellow Hindus .

Punditjis to be offered New Contracts

To clarify any rumours and misinformation which you may have heard, we would like to let all our members know that our committee have been considering the future of the punditji’s, due to a breech of the terms of the old contract agreed upon previously in 2005. The committee have now decided to draw up new contracts, in consultation with our solicitors, which will be offered to them in the near future. They will continue to serve our community in the future.

Visits & Day Trips During Summer

Coaches went for the 7 days to listen to the pravachan given by Pujiya Shree Morari Bapu in Leicester in June.

A day trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon and the newly built Balaji Temple in Dudley was a great success. The birth place of William Shakespere had a surprise for all, which was the statue of Shree Rabindra Nath Tagore in his gardens. He is one of the greatest poets of India to receive the Nobel Price for Literature. He also wrote the National Anthem of India.

Balaji’s Temple was so beautiful that it takes your breath away. Made in the traditional South Indian Style, using Granite Stone, wood and marble. It has taken 30 years from starting to think of the temple to completing the project. It has 12 smaller temples within the compound dedicated to all the main deities. You MUST visit it if you are in the midlands next time.

A Visit To The Motor Show

A Visit To The Motor Show at The NEC Birmingham is being planned for the October Bank Holidays. Please do contact Kishorbhai Dabhi or Rajubhai Patel if you are interested.
